September 2024 | Rebuild from A to Z: assembly

A smooth assembly is determined by:

  • A well-documented preliminary disassembly with sufficient sketches and photographs. Did you miss the newsletter about disassembly? No problem, you can read it again here at your leisure.
  • A thorough inspection of each component before assembly. Once the valve is assembled, it is almost impossible to check the clearance between all the components because the construction of the housing is too tight. Therefore, we must be sure that the clearance between the rotor and housing is uniform and within tolerances prior to assembly. Strictly check all components for dimensional accuracy before starting the assembly. It is also recommended to make a sketch of all parts with dimensions and actual tolerances measured at multiple points.
  • Accurate execution. Although the actual assembly may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, precise alignment remains crucial to ensure a good seal and smooth operation. The smallest deviation can lead to leaks and reduced efficiency.
  • Experience and expertise of the assemblers. Well-trained and experienced technicians familiar with the techniques described earlier are of great value. Preferably, the valve should be assembled by the same person who disassembled it.

Good assembly is essential for the reliability and performance of the final product or system. Only by optimizing the above factors can good assembly be guaranteed.
